Newton Abbot sits where the moor, the valley and Torbay meet, which makes it one of the easiest places in Devon to move from and one of the more varied to move within. Old town terraces one week, a new estate the next, a moorland cottage after that.
The town has grown a lot. There is the older core around the market and the station, with terraces and flats above shops, and then a considerable amount of newer building out towards Kingsteignton and along the A383. Those two halves need different things from us — the first needs patience with parking and stairs, the second needs a phone call to the site office.
The three directions
Down the valley to the coast
Teignmouth and Dawlish, ten minutes away and a different kind of property — seafront flats, Victorian villas subdivided decades ago, and railway-line parking that is tight all year and impossible in August.
Across to Torbay
Torquay, Paignton and Brixham down the A380. Short distance, resort-town problems: hills, one-way systems, and a summer where finding anywhere to stop a lorry near a seafront property is the whole job.
Up onto the moor
Bovey Tracey, Ashburton, Lustleigh, Widecombe. This is where Devon stops being convenient. Single-track lanes with high banks, no passing places, overhanging branches that a high-sided van will find for you, and driveways you cannot reverse out of. We ask about the last half mile specifically, because that is the bit that decides the vehicle.
New builds, chains and dates
Newton Abbot has as much new housing as anywhere in south Devon, and new-build completions slip more often than resales do. If your date is provisional, tell us — we would rather hold a flexible slot than rebook you at short notice. Where the gap becomes days rather than hours, storage bridges it.

Do you cover the new estates around Newton Abbot?
Yes, and there are a lot of them now. The usual complications are handover slots that slip and site roads that are not finished, so we ring the developer or site office before the day rather than trusting the completion time on its own.
How far up the moor will you go?
As far as the lane allows. Bovey Tracey, Lustleigh, Manaton, Widecombe and the villages around them are all regular. Past a certain point the road decides, not us — where a Luton will not fit we shuttle in something smaller.
Is Newton Abbot a good base for a Torbay move?
It is effectively the hinge. Torquay, Paignton and Brixham are minutes away down the A380, so moves between the bay and the valley are short. The difficulty is Torbay parking in season, not the distance.
Can you handle a move with a lot of stairs?
Yes, and around here that usually means a converted townhouse or a flat above a shop in the town centre. We look at the stair route on the survey and crew it accordingly instead of arriving two-handed and hoping.
