Barnstaple removals, and the rest of north Devon.
North Devon is the part of the county everything else forgets. It is a long way from the motorway, the roads in are slow, and the coast adds gradients that decide what we can send. We plan for all three.
Barnstaple is the market town that north Devon organises itself around — the hospital, the college, the retail parks, the bus routes. Most moves in this corner of the county either start there, end there, or pass through it.
The geography is what shapes the work. You have the Taw and the Torridge cutting the area in two, one main road out towards Tiverton and the M5, and a coastline that goes from the flat sands at Braunton to the near-cliff approaches around Lynton in the space of twenty miles.

Town and estate housing
Barnstaple itself has a good mix — older terraces near the town centre where the parking is tight, and newer estates at Roundswell and Whiddon Valley where it is straightforward. Bideford is similar in character with a steeper old town.
Coastal and village properties
Braunton, Croyde, Woolacombe, Ilfracombe, Combe Martin, and the villages behind them. Narrow approaches, some severe gradients, and holiday traffic that turns a ten-minute job into an hour in August. A handful of properties here need a shuttle with a smaller van because nothing larger will physically reach the door.
Farms, cottages and smallholdings
Inland towards South Molton, Torrington and the edge of Exmoor. These are the moves with three times the volume anybody estimated, because the house is only part of it and the outbuildings are the rest. We ask about the barns up front.
Leaving north Devon
If you are moving up-country from here, the first hour is the A361 before the M5 even begins. That matters for crewing and for what can realistically be done in a day, and it is why we treat these as long-distance moves from the outset rather than local jobs with a long tail. North Devon questions
How long does it take to get out of north Devon?
Longer than the map suggests. The A361 to Tiverton is the only sensible way to the M5 and it is a single carriageway for much of it, so any move leaving the area starts with a slow first leg. We build that into the plan instead of discovering it.
Can you get to the coastal villages?
Yes, though some of them need a smaller vehicle. The approaches down to places like Lynmouth, Clovelly and parts of Ilfracombe are steep and narrow, and a few properties are genuinely not reachable by anything large. We look at the approach before we commit a van to it.
Is summer harder?
Considerably. Braunton, Croyde and Woolacombe fill up and the parking disappears entirely. If your date is flexible we will suggest a quieter slot; if it is not, we start earlier in the day.
Do you move farms and smallholdings?
Regularly. It is a different job from a house move — outbuildings, workshop kit, things that have not moved in decades and are heavier than they look. Tell us what is in the barns as well as the house so the quote covers the real volume.
